Mukō is a concept consumer drone system that streamlines the interaction of flying a drone through a tablet interface. The form and style resemble buoyancy and lightness. The interface adopts a natural gestural language for intuitive feedback.
The platform provides a custom gesture language for fine precision control. As the user transitions between line-of-sight mode and first-person-view mode, the tablet surface shifts from a representation of the ground plane to a representation of the first-person vertical plane. The gesture language simultaneously shifts to accommodate for posture and point-of-view perspective.
Research and Process
Our initial investigation into the perplexing state of user controls for existing consumer drones led us to observe the many ways in which those models fail to correspond to humans’ mental models for flight. Mukō is the result of a creative exploration into how we can design for our internal models of flying through space.
